The Commonwealth Government's recent appointed the Hon Susan Ryan AO as Australia’s first Age Discrimination Commissioner is a welcome development for seniors.
The Tall Trees aged care neighbourhoods in Queensland and northern New South Wales are in full support of the appointment of Ms Ryan’s role as the issue of age discrimination needs to be addressed.
Through creating this position, the government has a better opportunity to raise awareness of age discrimination, educate the community about the impact of age discrimination and advocate the elimination of age discrimination across all areas of public life.
Tall Trees offer low through to high care in each of our neighbourhoods and value each individual and recognise how important it is to respect our elders.
Our seniors should not be discriminated against because of their age, and changes like the appointment of an Age Discrimination Commissioner should ensure it does not continue happening.
